DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2012-13 NBA season underway, 18 former Blue Devils are making contributions to their respective teams. Two former Blue Devils, Kyrie Irving and Luol Deng, are leading their squads in scoring, while Carlos Boozer is averaging close to a double-double per game.
Shane Battier Forward - Miami Heat
Drafted: 1st Round (6th pick) by the Memphis Grizzlies (2001)
2012-13 Stats: 13 games, 7.0 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.6 SPG, 1.0 BPG
The Miami Heat are off to a 10-3 start to begin the season, with Battier starting every game and averaging 26.5 minutes a night. In a game against the Denver Nuggets on Nov. 15, Battier was the Heat’s second leading scorer with 18 points, including a 6-of-7 performance from three-point range. The former Blue Devil standout has started the year with a .458 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Battier is currently listed as day-to-day with a knee sprain he suffered in the third quarter of this past Saturday’s win over Cleveland. The Heat will play the San Antonio Spurs in a key game Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. on TNT.
Elton Brand Forward - Dallas Mavericks

2012-13 Stats: 15 games, 6.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.8 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Brand has started 12 of 15 games this season in his first year playing for the Dallas Mavericks. Now in his 14th year in the league, Brand has started slow this season, averaging 5.5 points per game, down from a career average of 18.1 points per game. Playing his first game against the Sixers since being waived, Brand scored a season-high 17 points. He recently recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 boards in a 107-101 win over the Wizards. The two-time All-Star played a key role in the Mavericks' season-opening win against the Los Angeles Lakers, grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring eight points. The Mavericks are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 7-9 overall record.
Carlos Boozer Forward - Chicago Bulls

Despite a slow 7-7 start by the Chicago Bulls, Carlos Boozer has started the year strong. Starting all 14 games of the season, Boozer is averaging nearly a double-double with 14.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He recently put together a dominant performance against the Bucks, scoring 22 points and grabbing a game-high 19 boards in the 93-86 Bulls win. Boozer scored a season-high 28 points in a 112-106 overtime win against the Phoenix Suns, while recording 14 rebounds in the game.
Luol Deng Forward - Chicago Bulls
Drafted: 1st Round (7th pick) by the Phoenix Suns (2004)
2012-13 Stats: 14 games, 17.6 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Deng has also enjoyed a successful start to his season for the Bulls despite the slow start by the team. With Derrick Rose out of the lineup, Deng has stepped up and leads the Bulls in scoring for the season averaging 17.6 points a game. After scoring just seven points in the season opener against the Sacramento Kings, Deng has scored in double figures in the 13 games since, including a 27-pont outing in a 97-91 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Chris Duhon Guard - Los Angeles Lakers
Drafted: 2nd Round (38th pick) by the Chicago Bulls (2004)
2012-13 Stats: 11 games, 2.8 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.4 SPG, 0.0 BPG
Duhon has been effective this season coming off the bench for the Lakers, averaging 16.1 minutes a game in 10 games. Now in his eighth season in the league, Duhon played a season-high 26 minutes and scored eight points in a 106-98 loss to the Grizzlies. Despite his limited opportunities, Duhon is shooting 50 percent from the floor this season. After a slow 1-4 start to the year, the Lakers are 6-3 in their past nine games.
Mike Dunleavy Forward - Milwaukee Bucks
Drafted: 1st Round (3rd pick) by the Golden State Warriors (2002)
2012-13 Stats: 13 games, 11.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.5 BPG
Now in his second season with the Bucks, Dunleavy has played a key role off the bench averaging 27.9 minutes a game. Dunleavy’s most impressive performance of the season came in a 105-102 Bucks win against the Cavaliers when the forward recorded his first double-double of the year with 29 points, on 10-of-12 shooting, and grabbed 12 rebounds. In the same game, Dunleavy also recorded the game-winning assist on an in-bounds play to Brandon Jennings with 0.7 seconds to play. Overall, Dunleavy has scored in double figures in seven of the 13 games he has played this season. The Bucks currently own a ledger of 7-6 and sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Gerald Henderson Guard - Charlotte Bobcats
Drafted: 1st Round (12th pick) by the Charlotte Bobcats (2009)
2012-13 Stats: 2 games, 12.5 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 2.5 APG, 3.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG
Henderson was injured in the Bobcats’ second game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks. In Charlotte’s season opener, Henderson scored 18 points and had five steals in the team’s first win in the regular season in 24 games. Before going out with an injury against the Mavericks, Henderson had seven points in 20 minutes of game action. The Bobcats announced earlier this month that Henderson would be sidelined 2-4 weeks with a sprained left foot.
Grant Hill Forward - Los Angeles Clippers
Drafted: 1st Round (3rd pick) by the Detroit Pistons (1994)

Hill is currently out indefinitely with bone bruises in his right knee. He last played in a preseason game against the Heat in Shanghai on Oct. 14, where he played 19 minutes and scored eight points.
Kyrie Irving Guard - Cleveland Cavaliers

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft has followed up his Rookie of the Year campaign with a solid start in his second season, scoring in double figures in 9-of-10 games that he has played. Irving recently suffered a broken finger in a game against the Mavericks, but managed to play the remainder of that game and a game the next night against the 76ers. After an MRI revealed a hairline fracture, Irving is expected to miss one month of playing time. In his only double-double of the year, Irving scored 24 points and recorded 10 assists to account for 48 of the Cav’s 108 points in a 108-101 win over the Clippers. Irving scored a career-high 34 points in a 114-101 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, including going a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line in the game.
Dahntay Jones Guard/Forward - Dallas Mavericks

Jones has played in 14 games, while starting one contest this season for the Mavericks. In 10.8 minutes of playing time, Jones is averaging 2.9 points per game. He scored a season-high seven points during a 90-82 loss to the Timberwolves.
Corey Maggette Forward - Detroit Pistons

Miles Plumlee Forward - Indiana Pacers

Always known as a terrific free-throw shooter, Redick ranks in the top 10 in the league in free throw percentage. Austin Rivers Guard - New Orleans Hornets

In the game, the forward scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a 3-of-3 performance from three. In addition, Singler posted a team-high five assists in the contest.
Nolan Smith Guard - Portland Trail Blazers
