DURHAM, N.C. -  The Duke wrestling team travels to Lexington, Va., to compete against VMI Saturday, January 19.  The match begins at 7 p.m.  Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Peter Terrezza to learn more about the New Providence, N.J., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Peter Terrezza:
I don't know if I have one single proudest moment, but when I wrestle well and my team wrestles well I feel proud to be a part of Duke wrestling. Another thing is when we have a really hard practice and everybody fights through it and keeps working tough that is a proud moment for me and for the team.

GoDuke.com: What is the most misunderstood thing about wrestling?
PT:
I would say when most people that don't know wrestling view wrestling, to them it kind of just looks like people rolling around. I don't think most people realize that every single position and every single move is practiced over and over and the muscle memory is built in.

GoDuke.com: What's been your favorite class at Duke?
PT:
I took two Japanese history classes that were both really, really interesting just because I had never learned about Japan before and their culture is completely different than ours.

GoDuke.com: What's been your most challenging class?
PT:
I took a graduate level Italian class. I was one of two undergrads in it and the rest were grad students directly from Italy. As a non-native Italian speaker, most of the time I had trouble keeping up. I did most of the readings in English and struggled to keep up with the conversations.

GoDuke.com: Talk about the first time you started wrestling.
PT:
I started wrestling in seventh grade and the summer before I had planned to wrestle. I got the idea, maybe I will go to a wrestling tournament. It seemed like a good idea because I could get some experience with the sport. I showed up in shorts and a t-shirt, my dad and grandma were with me. I knew nothing about wrestling and got pinned pretty easily in my first two matches. We traveled pretty far to get there. Not only was I out of place, because I didn't have a singlet, but I had no idea what I was doing and got pinned. For some reason I kept wrestling.

GoDuke.com: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? What do you want to be now?
PT:
I went through a few phases. At one point I wanted to be a paleontologist, because I liked dinosaurs. At another period in my life I wanted to be a cowboy. Those were the main two things as a child. I am actually between three practice areas, looking for a job currently. One of my interests is management consulting, you have the variety and challenge there. Another one of my interests is sales and trading, I am really interested in the markets. My third interest is technology space, I have always been into technology.

GoDuke.com: Who's been the biggest influence on your life?
PT:
My assistant wrestling coach in high school. He worked out with me every single day. He used to take me out to eat. Throughout high school, he was what I aspired to be like. He was hard working, no nonsense, but knew when was appropriate to have a good time. He just made everything in life really simple. If you needed to get better at wrestling, there were simple steps to do that. That was something I really learned from him.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents?
PT:
I am pretty good at video games. I know how to build computers. I have built several computers for myself and have built some for my friends. I am a pretty mean chess player. I am good at board games.

GoDuke.com: If you weren't wrestling, would there be another sport that you would play?
PT:
There definitely would be. I played all types of sports growing up, and it wasn't until after my sophomore year in high school that I committed to wrestling and made that the only thing I wanted to do. Soccer is up there, I also played football in high school, ran track, played baseball in middle school. I would definitely play another sport, it would probably be soccer.
