DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke redshirt senior quarterback Sean Renfree is one of 117 student-athletes nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, announced on Tuesday by Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association.
Since 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has shown a spotlight on the countless "good works" and remarkable stories of service by student-athletes at all levels of college football competition. Award recipients represent the sport's finest in terms of character and leadership in the community.
Renfree, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., enters the 2012 season as the ACC's most experienced signal caller with 23 starts and an ACC-leading 6,352 career passing yards. He is on the cusp of breaking several school records and already holds Duke's all-time completion percentage with a career mark of .634 (601-of-948). Renfree also ranks among Duke's top six in passing efficiency (124.49, 2nd), passing yards (5th), pass completions (601, 5th), pass attempts (948, 5th), touchdown-to-interception ratio (1.07:1, 5th) and touchdown passes (32, 6th).
Off the field, Renfree is involved in numerous community service efforts including the Duke Children's Hospital, Durham Rescue Mission, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Active Teens. He is a two-time member of the Academic All-ACC Football Team with an undergraduate degree in public policy studies and is currently pursuing a master's degree in humanities.
From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent college football media members will select two 11-player Good Works Teams® - one comprised of players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and another representing players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA. The final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September.
In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved and committed to working with a charitable organization, service group or community service while maintaining a strong academic standing.
If selected to the team, Renfree would join a list of three Blue Devils who have received recognition on the AFCA Good Works Team: Zaid Abdul-Aleem (1994), Re'quan Boyette (2008) and Bryan Morgan (2010).

The Blue Devils open the 2012 season with a home contest against FIU on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. Duke season tickets are available online at www.GoDuke.com/tickets or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
