DURHAM, N.C. – Duke led the Atlantic Coast Conference with five selections to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis team, as announced Tuesday by Commissioner John Swofford.
Rising senior Chris Mengel was one of two student-athletes to be named a three-time honoree, joining Clemson’s Yannick Maden. Henrique Cunha and rising junior Raphael Hemmeler were tabbed to the 20-man squad for the second time in their respective careers.
Joining Mengel, Cunha and Hemmeler on the All-ACC Academic team were Fred Saba and Michael Redlicki, who received their first selections.
The men's tennis program has placed at least three student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic team in each of the past eight seasons and 35 overall since the award's inception in 2006.
Duke led the conference with five selections, while Clemson and Virginia Tech each had three selections. Clemson’s Maden was named the ACC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
