GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, and the Greensboro Coliseum will play host to the event in 2020, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced today.

“Some of the greatest chapters of ACC Tournament’s 61-year history have been written in these two cities, and we are proud to continue that tradition in Charlotte and Greensboro,” Swofford said. “Both cities are terrific hosts for our schools, fans and teams, with top-notch facilities and hospitality.”

With Thursday’s announcement, the site of the ACC Tournament is now set for the next six years. The Greensboro Coliseum will also serve as the host venue in 2015, followed by the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., in 2016. The ACC on Wednesday announced a two-year agreement to hold the tournament at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2017 and 2018.

“As we look ahead, this continues to be an exciting time for our conference,” Swofford said. “The variety of future locations of the ACC Tournament reflects our conference’s expanded footprint and will service our teams, schools, alumni and fan bases well.”

The ACC Tournament has been held in seven different cities and 11 venues since the inaugural event in March of 1954.

Charlotte has hosted the ACC Tournament on 12 prior occasions at three different arenas. The tournament was last played in the Queen City in 2008, when Time Warner Cable Arena served as the host venue for the first time.

“I’m thrilled that the ACC Tournament will return to Time Warner Cable Arena in 2019,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment Chairman Michael Jordan. “Having played in the ACC Tournament, I know how important it is to basketball fans throughout the Carolinas. It is the premier conference tournament in the country, and we are excited to welcome the ACC back to Charlotte.”

Built by the City of Charlotte in 2005 and operated by Bobcats Sports & Entertainment, Time Warner Cable Arena is home of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats, the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers and is the premier destination for top-rated concerts and events. The 2008 ACC Tournament at the venue produced sellout crowds for each session and a total attendance of 120,210. The arena’s amenities include one of the largest video boards of any indoor arena.

“It’s a great honor that the ACC has selected the city of Charlotte and Time Warner Cable Arena to host the 2019 ACC Tournament,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment President & COO Fred Whitfield. “This tournament features some of the best and most historic basketball teams in the nation. It will be great to host ACC fans from across the country in Charlotte for what is sure to be an exciting week of basketball action.”

The Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the ACC Tournament more than any other venue and will be hosting for the 27th time in 2020.

“Hosting the ACC men’s basketball for two of the next six years will allow us to continue the storied history that exists between the conference and the City of Greensboro,” said Coliseum managing director Matt Brown. “The Greensboro community truly embraces this prestigious event and we can’t wait to host it again here in ‘Tournament Town’ next year and in 2020.”

The 25 tournaments in Greensboro to date have attracted over 2.2 million fans, including sellout crowds for the Thursday through Sunday sessions of this year’s event. The Greensboro Coliseum Complex is a multi-building facility designed to serve the citizens of Greensboro and the surrounding area through a broad range of activities, including athletic events, cultural arts, concerts, theater, educational activities, fairs, exhibits, and public and private events of all kinds including conventions, convocations and trade and consumer shows.

“On behalf of our dedicated community volunteers, we are thrilled to have the ACC Men’s Tournament back in Greensboro in 2015 and 2020,” said Richard Beard, chairman of the Coliseum War Memorial Commission and Tournament Host of Greensboro. “We look forward to bringing our special brand of ‘southern hospitality’ to these events to ensure all ACC student-athletes, officials and fans continue to have outstanding experiences in Greensboro.”

Both Charlotte and Greensboro will continue a history of successfully hosting ACC championship events.

Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium has hosted the last four ACC Football Championship Games and is scheduled to continue hosting through 2019. The Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the last 15 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournaments, and Greensboro is the host city for the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, the ACC Women’s Golf Championship and the ACC Baseball Championship in 2014.
