MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. - Former Blue Devil Ashley Twichell captured her second Open Water National Championship of the weekend Sunday in the women's 5K race, becoming the first person to win both Open Water national titles since Chloe Sutton did so in 2007.

After taking the 10K crown Friday at the Miromar Lakes Beach and Golf Club in Miromar, Fla., Twichell once again edged out a competitive field in Sunday's 5K race. The Fayetteville, N.Y., native finished in 58:54.17, just ahead of Emily Brunemann (58:54.47) in second and Christine Jennings (59:11.01) in third.

"That's how these races go," Twichell said. "You race really hard for 40 minutes and then you push yourself harder for the final 15 minutes."

With her top-two finish in Friday's 10K, Twichell earned a trip to the Olympic qualifier event in Setubal, Portugal on June 9.
