DURHAM, N.C.— PGA Master Professional Ed Ibarguen and PGA Head Golf Professional Jessica Stewart—members of Duke University Golf Club staff located at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club—recently earned golf awards from several prestigious golf associations.

Ibarguen was recently selected as a 2012 Golf Range Association of America Top 50 ‘Growth of the Game’ Teaching Professional. GRAA is an allied association with the Professional Golfers Association of America. Their parent company GGRW, Inc. publishes the world's leading trade magazine, PGA Magazine. Ibarguen was chosen from hundreds of highly regarded teaching professionals nationwide and will be listed, along with all the winners, in the January 2013 issue of Golf Range Magazine as well as on

Ibarguen is no stranger to golf industry accolades. The national Chairman of the PGA Teaching/Instruction Committee, he’s been a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher since 2001 and serves as a faculty member for teaching golf in the PGA Professional Golf Management program. Recognized by his peers with two national PGA awards—the 1995 Horton Smith Award and 1998 Bill Strausbaugh Award—Ibarguen is also the recipient of seven Carolinas PGA Section Awards including the 1991 and 2003 Teacher of the Year; 2001 PGA Professional of the Year; 1990, 1998, and 2004 Horton Smith; and 1993 Bill Strausbaugh Award. As the general manager at the Duke University Golf Club since 1988, Ibarguen has helped the golf course receive annual rankings as one of the best in the state from Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and the Golf North Carolina panel.

Stewart is also highly regarded in field of golf merchandising. She was recently named the 2012 Public Assess Golf Course Merchandiser of the Year by Carolinas PGA Section—her first Carolina PGA Section award. Jessica and her co-head professional Brent Bowen take every advantage of their connection to Duke University. The entire golf club staff is involved in creating merchandising plans around the University sports seasons as well as the Carolinas golf season. Being located on a university campus requires the golf shop to keep a variety of goods, at all price points, in stock to appeal to the wide range of demographics that might walk through their doors on any given day.

The Carolinas PGA Section Awards and Honors are distributed each year to the ten Carolinas PGA Professionals who not only excel in their fields of expertise, but also contribute to the growth of the game in the Carolinas. These individuals dedicate themselves to maintaining the integrity of the golf industry, and consistently exemplify what it means to be a PGA Professional. The Carolinas PGA Section Special Awards and Honors committee chair and the 41st Inductee into the Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame Mike Harmon, PGA of Secession Golf Club, announced the ten professionals nominated by their peers, including Jessica Stewart, who have risen to the top in 2012. These ten professionals will be recognized at the 20th Annual Special Awards and Honors Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
