DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior right-hander Robert Huber has earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in his career as announced by the league Monday. Huber threw his second consecutive shutout Sunday to lead the Blue Devils to a series-clinching, 3-0 win over No. 15 Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech entered the weekend as the nation’s leading club in batting average, slugging percentage and home runs per game, but Huber kept the Yellow Jackets off balance in the series finale. Huber scattered five hits, issued one walk and struck out seven for his third victory in as many starts.
Huber also tossed nine scoreless innings in Duke’s 6-0 win over Boston College on March 30, which was the Blue Devils’ first complete game shutout since 2004. With his performance Sunday, he extended his scoreless inning streak to 18 innings as the 6-0 junior has allowed just one run in his past three starts.
The ACC Pitcher of the Week selection is the second such career honor for Huber, who was also recognized in the opening week of the 2012 season. Huber becomes Duke’s first ACC Pitcher of the Week selection since March 19, 2012 when Marcus Stroman collected the distinction. Overall, the Blue Devils have received 13 conference player of the week accolades and 20 pitcher of the week citations.
