Honors: ACC Cross Country Men's Performer of the Week (2012)...ACC Academic Honor Roll (2013, 2014)
2013-14: Participated in five competitions during the fall…helped Duke place third at the Furman XC Challenge (9/14), finishing 15th in a personal-best 8K time of 24:30.50…opened the season with a third-place finish in the Bull City Classic (8/31), clocking a 6K time of 19:27…concluded the season with a 95th-place finish at the Southeast Region Championship (11/15)…did not compete during the 2014 indoor or outdoor seasons.
2012-13: Named the ACC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week Nov. 5 after winning the Three Stripe Invitational ... clocked 15:21 over 5K in that performance ... finished eighth at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in his Duke cross country debut ... posted a time of 26:51.9 in the first 8K race of his collegiate career at the Panorama Farms Invitational to come in 66th...competed once during the indoor season at the JDL Fast Track Kickoff…finished third in the 3,000 with a time of 8:44.33…did not compete during the outdoor season.
Prior to Duke: Completed prep career at Greens Farms Academy in Greens Farms, Conn....placed 13th in the 5,000m at the 2012 New Balance Indoor Nationals...winner of the New England Cross Country Meet of Champions as a junior...guided his cross country team to three consecutive New England Prep School and conference championships...also captured individual NEPSAC and conference titles in cross country...earned Foot Locker All-Northeast honors as a freshman...school record holder in the 5K in cross country and the 1,600m and 3,200m in track & field...two-time All-New England selection...twice named team MVP...also lettered four years in golf and two years in basketball...member of the Cum Laude Society, Latin National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society...earned high honors all four years.
Personal: Son of Bill and Mary Rooney...born July 10, 1994...has two brothers (Austin and John)...mother graduated from Duke in 1982.
