SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia (5-6) is riding a five-game losing streak, the first time the Cavaliers have lost five straight since 1966 ... They are unranked for the first time since 2004 and it marks the first time Duke has faced an unranked Virginia squad since the USILA coaches poll started in 1973 ... Nick O’Reilly paces the offense with 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points ... Mark Cockerton has a team-best 32 goals, while Matt White has 15 goals and 25 points overall ... All six of Virginia’s losses have come against ranked opponents ... Mick Parks handles the faceoff duties, winning 137-of-238 draws and picking up 57 ground balls ... Dan Marino and Rhody Heller have split time between the pipes  ... Marino has a 9.09 goals against average and a .455 save percentage with a 5-2 record, while Heller is 0-4 with an 11.23 goals against average and a .486.


GROUND BALL BATTLE
Friday night’s match will feature two of the top ground ball squads in the country ... Virginia comes into the game averaging a nation’s-best 39.4 grounders per game, while the Blue Devils are fourth at 36.2 ... Duke has lost the ground ball battle twice - Maryland and Loyola - going 1-1 in those contests ... Only Cornell has picked up more ground balls versus Virginia this season.

BLUE DEVILS AGAINST VIRGINIA
Duke is 5-1 against Virginia since 2010 ... Overall, 20 current Blue Devils have suited up against the Cavaliers and eight have at least one point ... Jordan Wolf has 14 points in three games, while Christian Walsh has eight in three outings ... Brendan Fowler has taken 22 faceoffs against Virginia in his three games, winning nine of those.

Duke is 167-171 all-time in the month of April ... Often starting to play their best lacrosse in April, the Blue Devils are 28-5 in the month since 2007 ... Duke went undefeated in the fourth month of the year from April 7, 2007 - April 23, 2010 ... The Blue Devils have lost just three regular season games in the month of April under head coach John Danowski.

DANOWSKI VS. STARSIA
Duke head coach John Danowski’s teams have had success against current Virginia head coach Dom Starsia’s teams over the past 27 seasons ... Danowski’s programs are 13-3 all-time against teams led by Starsia ... HOME SWEET HOME
After going 2-3 in its first five home games, Duke has gone 5-0 in the past five to improve to 7-3 overall at Koskinen in 2013 ...  Duke is 27-4 in its previous 31 home games ... Overall, the Blue Devils have fared well at home since 2005, going 81-10 overall ... Under head coach John Danowski, Duke is 66-9 in Durham ... Duke is 14-20 against Virginia in Durham, but has not lost to the Cavaliers at Koskinen Stadium since an 11-8 setback on April 12, 2003.

REACHING THE PERFECT 10

Since 2005, Duke is 49-3 against unranked opponents ... The Blue Devils’ losses to unranked foes all came against Ivy League schools ... ONE GOAL GAMES
Duke improved to 71-61 all-time in games decided by one goal after beating Harvard 12-11 ... Duke played a program-high seven one-goal games in both 1994 and 1997 ... Duke is 13-5 in one-goal games under John Danowski and 2-0 this season with wins over Loyola and the Crimson ... Duke and Virginia have played 11 one-goal games with the Blue Devils owning a 6-5 record in those contests.

DUKE IN OVERTIME CONTESTS
Duke has played 35 overtime games in its history ... The Blue Devils are 17-17-1 overall and 2-0 against Virginia in extra sessions ... Under Danowski, Duke is 4-1 in contests that go into overtime and 1-0 versus the Cavaliers.

DANOWSKI EARNS 100TH DUKE WIN
Danowski picked up his 100th win at Duke with a 12-4 triumph over Towson ... Since 2007, the longtime coach has amassed a 104-28 record, making him just the fourth coach in Division I men’s lacrosse to win 100-plus games at two programs ... He captured 192 wins at Hofstra prior to coming to Durham ... Virginia’s Dom Starsia is the only other active coach to have won at least 100 games at two different schools.

WOLF NEARING 100 CAREER GOALS MARK
Wolf’s 96 career goals leave him four shy of becoming the 15th Duke player to register 100 career goals ... His 96 goals are the most by any current Division I junior and rank 16th among active players ... Zack Greer holds the career record with 206, the lone Blue Devil to surpass the 200-goal mark.

OFFIT & LAWSON STEPPING UP
Senior captains Josh Offit and David Lawson have stepped up their offensive production this season ... The duo has combined for 38 goals and 14 assists for 52 points this season, which are 15 more points than the 37 they combined for last season ... Lawson and Offit had 25 goals and 12 assists in a combined 39 games a year ago ... Through 13 games this season, Lawson has 20 goals and Offit owns 18, bettering their respective totals of 14 and 11 in 2012. 

OFFIT COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH
In Duke’s three wins by three or fewer goals, Offit has netted a crucial goal in the fourth quarter to help secure the win ... Against Loyola, the Bethesda, Md., native broke open a 6-6 tie with 9:40 left as Duke went on to win 9-8 ... He gave Duke a two-goal lead, 10-8, with 2:35 remaining versus North Carolina and then had the go-ahead goal against Harvard with 5:25 to play.

WOLF RIDING POINT SCORING STREAK
With at least a point in all 13 games this season, Wolf has pushed his point scoring streak to 33 games, ranking tied for sixth in Division I lacrosse ... In the past 32 games, the Wynnewood, Pa., native has 65 goals, 50 assists for 115 points ... He has been held without a point in just five games in his career and Duke is 1-4 in those contests.

FOWLER LEADS FACEOFF GAME
Junior Brendan Fowler has been outstanding at the X in his first season as the full-time draw man ... Fowler has won at least 10 draws in 12 of 13 games this season and won 74 percent of the restarts against No. 6 North Carolina ... He owns a 64.7 percent success rate at the draw ... Fowler is one of 14 faceoff guys in Division I lacrosse to win at least 20 restarts in a game this season.

FOWLER LEADS GROUND BALL GAME
In addition to winning 15.1 faceoffs per game, Fowler is averaging 9.85 ground balls per game to rank second nationally ... The Wantagh, N.Y. native is 16 shy of totaling CJ Costabile’s single-season record 144 from last season.

DUPREY MANNING THE DEFENSE
Junior longstick midfielder Luke Duprey has helped anchor the Duke defense all season ... He currently owns 29 caused turnovers and has posted up at least three in three different games ... His 29 takeaways are as many as his total from his first two seasons combined and rank second nationally this season ... The Concord, N.H., picked up five caused turnovers against Notre Dame ... The five caused turnovers are the second most by a Blue Devil in a game since the NCAA started tracking the stat in 2010 ... Only Tom Montelli ‘11 had more with six against Sacred Heart in 2010.

The Blue Devils hit the road for the remainder of the season … Duke travels to Rutgers for an April 20 matchup before preparing for the ACC Championships April 26-28 … The Blue Devils close out the regular season May 5 at Marquette.
