DURHAM, N.C. – The ninth-ranked Duke field hockey team continues its four-game homestand with a pair of non-conference matchups this weekend at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The squad will host No. 13 Northwestern Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. and Radford Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m., with both matches scheduled to be streamed live on Inside Access.

Northwestern Series History
Duke and the Wildcats will square off for just the fifth time in program history Friday … The series between the two schools is tied at 2-2 … The Blue Devils are 1-1 when facing Northwestern at home … The Wildcats collected a 4-2 win in the last meeting Sept. 9, 2012 in Evanston, Ill.

Duke vs. the Big Ten
The Blue Devils are 22-21 all-time against teams currently in the Big Ten … The squad is 1-0 against Big Ten teams this fall after dispatching Indiana, 4-0, in the season opener Aug. 30.

Scouting the Wildcats
No. 13 Northwestern improved to 7-1 on the year with a couple of non-conference victories last weekend … The Wildcats topped California by a 2-1 score in overtime Friday, Sept. 13 before defeating Ohio, 1-0, Sept. 15 … The team enters Friday’s matchup with the Blue Devils on a seven-game win streak and owns four shutouts through eight games … The Northwestern defense, led by junior goalkeeper Maddy Carpenter, has allowed just two goals over its last six contests … Carpenter currently ranks second in the nation with a .730 goals against average … Senior Nikki Parsley and sophomore Caitlin Troncelliti lead the Wildcats up front, as each have posted five goals and 12 points this fall.

Radford Series History
Duke is 13-0 in program history when facing the Highlanders, including a 6-0 mark in games played at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium … The last meeting with Radford came on Sept. 9, 2007, when the Blue Devils posted a 4-0 shutout.

Duke vs. the NorPac
The Blue Devils own a commanding 84-10-3 record historically against teams in the NorPac Conference … Duke went 2-0 against NorPac teams in 2012.

Scouting the Highlanders
Radford is 1-5 on the fall and 0-1 in NorPac Conference action after suffering an 8-1 loss to top-ranked North Carolina Sept. 15 and a 3-2 loss to conference opponent Longwood Sept. 17 … Sophomore forward Marianna Parker leads the squad with three goals for six points through six games on the season … Midfielder Jennifer Hedrick has tallied three defensive saves while as a team the Highlanders lead the nation with 10 defensive saves … Sophomore Jillian Lates and senior Sidney Encarnacion have split time in goal, with the two combining for an average of 11.80 saves per game, which currently ranks tied for third in the country.

Last Time Out
Head coach Pam Bustin’s squad allowed just one goal in two games last weekend, edging William & Mary by a 2-1 score Friday, Sept. 13 and downing then-No. 15 Old Dominion, 1-0, Sunday, Sept. 15 … Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing matched a career-high with eight saves in the win over the Monarchs while leading the Blue Devils (5-1) to their second shutout of the season … Junior forward Jessica Buttinger scored the game’s lone goal in the 65th minute on a feed from junior midfielder Abby Beltrani.

Blazing Off to Strong Start Between the Pipes
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper and Durham, N.C., product Lauren Blazing has guided the Blue Devils to a 5-1 mark, including shutouts against Indiana (Aug. 30) and Old Dominion (Sept. 15) … Her .800 save percentage leads all ACC goalkeepers and is tied for eighth nationally … She also ranks third among conference goalkeepers in goals against average with a 0.94 clip.

Late Goals Propel Blue Devils
Duke’s offense has lifted the team to wins with late goals in each of the past three contests … Graduate student Cherry Seaborn fired a goal in double overtime to lead Duke past Rutgers Sept. 8 … Senior McKay Ross scored in the 62nd minute against William & Mary Sept. 13 to break a 1-1 tie ... Junior Jessica Buttinger provided the late-game heroics in last Sunday’s win over then-No. 15 Old Dominion, knocking in the gamewinner in the 65th minute of regulation.

Heimbach Anchors Back Line
Senior defender Paula Heimbach continues to be one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable backs in 2013 … An All-ACC honoree and Longstreth/NFHCA third team All-America selection last fall, Heimbach was tabbed to the Preseason All-ACC squad last month by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches … Heimbach and the Duke defense own two shutouts on the year and currently allow just 1.09 goals per game to rank ninth in the country.

ACC Well-Represented in NFHCA Coaches Poll
The ACC continues to dominate the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, placing five schools within the top 10 … The Blue Devils have held at No. 9 in the poll for the past two weeks, while North Carolina and Maryland come in at the top two spots.
