GoDuke.com: How has the success of last season changed your mindset coming into preseason camp?
Jeremy Cash: It hasn’t really. We’re just going out there on a mission. We can’t focus on last season’s success. We have to know we’re still wanted by everyone in the ACC and we just have to keep striving for our ultimate goal to reach a National Championship.
Carlos Wray: It really hasn’t changed my mindset; just keep working hard and good things will come from it.
GoDuke.com: What three words best describe preseason camp?
JC: Productive, intense and physical.
CW: Tough, long and hard.
GoDuke.com: What advice would you give to the freshmen about preseason camp?
JC: Cold tub and hydrate.
CW: Just be very patient and pace yourself. Don’t do more than you’re asked to do and don’t bite off more than you can chew.
GoDuke.com: What players have impressed you during summer workouts and the start of preseason camp?
JC: Our quarterback play has been a lot better – not to say it wasn’t good last year, but (Anthony) Boone has really progressed through all of his injuries from last year and his accuracy and his production. And I think our young defensive backs are really stepping up.
CW: (Defensive tackles) Mike Ramsay and Edgar Cerenord. They’re busting their tails on and off the field.
GoDuke.com: What are your individual goals for preseason?
JC: Don’t get hurt.
CW: Just to stay healthy and keep working hard and get better.
GoDuke.com: Bringing back 17 starters from last season, how will that familiarity help the team in the upcoming season?
JC: I think it will help a lot, being that we do have a lot of young players joining our roster. Hopefully they’ll be able to get a chance to play and contribute to the program as well, and we can go ahead and guide them along the way and teach them the ways of Duke standards.
CW: I think it will really help the chemistry of the team.
GoDuke.com: What three words best describe Coach David Cutcliffe?
JC: Fatherly, humble and intense.
CW: Funny, inspirational and hard-working.
