ATLANTA, Ga. – Duke wide receiver Conner Vernon became the ACC’s all-time receiving yardage leader but the Blue Devils fell to Georgia Tech, 42-24, in front of 41,904 fans at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.

The Blue Devils fall to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in ACC play.

With five catches for 38 yards on the day, Vernon passed former Florida State standout Peter Warrick (3,517) atop the ACC’s all-time chart. Vernon now has 262 career receptions for 3,521 yards, both ACC records. In addition, Vernon set an ACC record by catching at least one pass in his 46th consecutive game, breaking the previous standard of 45 set by Corey Holliday of North Carolina.

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets. Washington threw scoring strikes of 28 yards to Zach Laskey and eight and 27 yards to Robert Godhigh. Washington also scored on the ground from one yard out in the first quarter.

Duke wide receiver Desmond Scott paced the Blue Devils with 10 receptions for 124 yards and a 24-yard touchdown grab. It was Scott’s second 100-yard performance and third double-digit reception performance of the season.

The Yellow Jackets scored touchdowns – all on rushes from scrimmage – on their first three possessions and took a 21-17 lead into halftime. Duke’s Sean Renfree threw a 24-yard scoring pass to Scott in the first period and later added a rushing touchdown from nine yards out in the second quarter. Ross Martin accounted for the first half margin by booting a career-best 50-yard field goal with one minute remaining in the first half.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter with Washington and Renfree each throwing scoring passes. Washington pushed the Yellow Jacket lead to 35-24 with a touchdown pass with 10:17 left in the fourth period.

Renfree finished 24-of-36 passing for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Duke’s defensive unit was paced by linebackers Kyler Brown (14 tackles) and C.J. France (15 tackles).

Duke returns home for the regular season finale against Miami next Saturday. The kickoff time will be announced on Sunday.
