DURHAM, N.C. -- Eighteen Blue Devil student athletes participated in the Verizon Read With The Blue Devils program over the last several weeks visiting six local elementary schools to read to third-grade classes.

Thursday, February 4th - Oak Grove Elementary- Julian McIntosh (men's soccer), Bryan Morgan (football), Reka Zsilinszka (women's tennis)

Wednesday, February 17th - Easley Elementary - Christie Barnes and Sarah Bullard (women's lacrosse)

Friday, February 19th - Eastway Elementary - Chris Shannon (football), Rose O'Connor (women's swimming & diving), James Osborne (men's track & field), Stephanie Shyu (fencing)

Monday, February 22nd - Eastway Elementary - Shannon Beall (women's swimming & diving), Kelsey Ontko (women's track & field), Maddie Salamone (women's lacrosse)

Tuesday, February 23rd - Holt Elementary - Jon Scheyer and Brian Zoubek (men's basketball)

Friday, February 26th - Cary Elementary Read Across America Event - Jane Alukonis (women's soccer)

Monday, March 1st - Merrick-Moore Elementary School - Meredith Bannon and Shannon Beall (women's swimming & diving), Nailah Waterfield and Kellie Catanach (volleyball)

The Verizon Read With The Blue Devils program is intended to aid area teachers by providing reading incentives for third graders in Durham. By reading for 15 minutes for 12 nights, a youngster is able to reach various levels and earn Blue Devil gifts along the way.  Among the prizes given out are autographed team photos, posters, t-shirts and chances to meet Duke student-athletes at various functions.
