Duke Holds Annual Student Athlete Parent Orientation

DURHAM -- The Duke Athletics Department hosted the annual Student Athlete Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 21st at 6:00pm in the Richard White Lecture Hall of East Campus.
The program, titled Dropping Off and Letting Go, is designed specifically for parents of first year Duke NCAA Student Athletes. Discussed topics included Academic Support, Medical Support, the Leadership Program, Student Athlete Development, and tips to help parents adjust during this transition in their child’s life.
The program featured Athletics Department Staff and Duke Student Athletes.
Three current and former Duke Student Athletes provided first-hand accounts and insights for parents. Ryan Munger, senior baseball player, discussed academic support, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and weight training/conditioning support. Kellie Catanach, 2012 graduate of the volleyball team and current Duke Administrative and Championships Assistant, spoke on Career Services, leadership opportunities, sport psychology services and the Advancing Leaders program. Josh Trezvant, 2012 graduate and former football student athlete, discussed the First Year mentoring program and sports medicine.
