DURHAM -- Duke Athletics hosted the first Senior Student Athlete Leadership event on Wednesday, November 13th. Senior student athletes who consistently participated in Duke Athletic Leadership Programs throughout their four years at Duke had the opportunity to attend.
The evening consisted of a dinner and special presentation by guest speaker Sue Enquist. Sue, a former UCLA softball coach, won 11 national championships, which is more than anyone in the history of softball. Outside of softball, she has gained the reputation as a highly sought after inspirational speaker. At Wednesday’s event, she spoke to the senior student athletes about “Competitive Greatness as a Lifestyle”. This senior program was made possible due to a generous gift from the Heidrick Family.
With the implementation of the Senior Leadership Event, the Duke Athletics Leadership Program now reaches student athletes at all years. First year student athletes are introduced to the Leadership Program through the First Year ACTION program, continue through the Sophomore Outdoor Leadership Experience in their second year, Advancing Leaders Program in their third year, and now reaches senior student athletes through the Senior Leadership Program. Student athletes across a variety of athletic teams attended the event.
