No. 9 Duke Returns Home Saturday to Face Ohio State
Ninth-ranked Duke (10-4, 2-3 ACC) returns home Saturday, Apr. 20 at 1 p.m. to face Ohio State from Koskinen Stadium … The Blue Devils are 8-1 this spring against non-conference foes following a 14-6 road victory over Davidson Wednesday, Apr. 17 … The Buckeyes enter the matchup with a ledger of 6-7 and a 1-3 mark in the American Lacrosse Conference after falling to Penn State, 14-12, on Apr. 14 … The Blue Devils will celebrate Alumni Weekend at Saturday’s contest.

Ohio State Series History
Saturday’s contest marks just the third all-time meeting between Duke and Ohio State with the series tied at 1-1 ... The two teams will face off for the first time since 2011.

Last Time We Met
The two teams last met in Durham Feb. 12, 2011 with Duke routing the Buckeyes by a score of 21-9 in the season opener ... The Blue Devils totaled 21 goals on 29 shots while tying a program single-game high with 13 assists ... Five Duke players tallied three or more goals, led by 2012 graduates Kat Thomas and Emma Hamm with four each ... Fellow 2012 graduate Mollie Mackler started in goal, posting eight saves in the win.

Home Sweet Home

Duryea Maturing Quickly in the Cage
Freshman Kelsey Duryea has been solid in the net since making her first appearance in the second half against Maryland on Feb. 24 ... Duryea has started all nine contests since then, ranking second nationally in saves per game heading into the week ... The Beverly, Mass., native also ranked third in the country in save percentage and paced the ACC in saves per game and save percentage ... Duryea recorded a season-high 15 stops against North Carolina on March 28.

Blue Devils in the National Landscape
In the April 15 edition of the NCAA’s Division I team statistics, Duke was tied for 23rd nationally in scoring offense with an average of 12.69 goals scored per game ... The Blue Devils also ranked among the top 20 teams in the country in scoring margin (20th, 3.69).

Devilish on Defense
The Blue Devils’ defense ranks third in the ACC and is tied for 22nd nationally, allowing opponents 9.00 goals per game heading into the week ... Duke has limited opponents to single-digit scoring seven times this season, including in a three-game span against Jacksonville (March 13), Dartmouth (March 17) and Virginia (March 23) ... The team collected the second shutout in program history and first since the 1998 season in a 23-0 victory over Presbyterian (Feb. 10) ... Virden Quick on the Draw
Through 14 games, Duke leads its opponents in draw controls by a 175-154 margin and is 8-1 this spring when winning the draw controls category ... Junior defender Taylor Virden leads the squad with 43 draw controls this spring for an average of 3.07 per game, which ranked her fifth in the ACC entering the week ... The Ellicott City, Md., native won a career-best six draws earlier this season against Vanderbilt (3/2), and has registered three or more draws in eight games overall ... Virden is now eighth on Duke’s all-time list for career draw controls with 111 in three seasons.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2013 slate currently features six teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season against then-No. 4 Maryland on Feb. 24 ... The Terrapins moved up to the top spot in the following week’s IWLCA poll ... Duke has notched wins against No. 11 Georgetown (March 9), No. 13 Dartmouth (March 17) and No. 9 Virginia (March 23).

Rookies Make Immediate Impact
Six Blue Devil freshmen have seen the field so far this season with Kelci Smesko and Kelsey Duryea entering the starting lineup ... Smesko and classmate Maddy Acton each collected their first collegiate goals in the season opener against Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) ... Smesko has started every contest at attack and has tallied 28 points on 18 goals and 10 assists, with the 10 helpers ranking her second on the squad ... Acton has played in every game, recording 15 points (12g, 3a) ... Duryea made her first appearance between the pipes in the second half against Maryland and has started the nine games since then ... Duryea ranked second in the country in saves per game and was third nationally in save percentage entering the week ... The native of Beverly, Mass., posted a season-high 15 saves against North Carolina (March 28).

Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both started the 2013 season in strong fashion ... Hommel has registered a team-high 36 goals to go with eight assists for a total of 44 points, while Maurer owns 27goals and leads the team in assists (24) and points (51) ... Hommel surpassed the 100-point mark for her career with a two-goal performance against Boston College (Apr. 6) ... Maurer reached the 100-point barrier with a five-point performance against Davidson (Apr. 17) and is also approaching the 50-assist milestone with 48 in just her second season.
