DURHAM, N.C.-- Duke Athletics put on its annual Paws 4 Exams program Monday, April 29, as Duke studentS prepare for the spring round of exams. The last day of classes was on Wednesday and students spent Thursday through Sunday in a reading period. Over 50 student-athletes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., visited with Izzie, Aspen, Mosey, and Bailey in the K Center Classroom.

“Mosey and I were so glad to come to Paws 4 Exams for the first time. Thinking back, I would have loved to have a break from studying to hang out with pups!” stated Lauren Maggart, the owner of Mosey.

Studies have shown that petting friendly dogs helps lower blood pressure, slows heart rate and releases muscle tension. This makes Paws 4 Exams a wonderful event to host before final exams begin. Duke University restricts students' access to pets on campus, and so Paws 4 Exams gives the student-athletes an outlet to enjoy man’s best friend.

Freshman, Meera Chakrabarti, of the Duke Women’s Rowing Team stated, “It was a really great break from studying with Mosey and Bailey; they were so relaxed.”

Duke Athletics is thankful to Lisa Wells, Lauren Maggart, and Duke Assistant Athletic Trainer, Melissa Gresham, for their efforts in supporting Duke student-athletes.
