DURHAM, N.C. - The conference office announced the 2017 ACC preseason cross country coaches’ polls Thursday morning, with the Duke women coming in at No. 9. In addition to its ACC preseason ranking, the Blue Devils also claimed a top-15 spot on this year’s United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason regional poll, coming in at No. 15 in the Southeast Region.
NC State, the reigning ACC champion, took the top spot in the conference preseason poll followed by Notre Dame. No. 3 Syracuse, No. 4 Virginia Tech, No. 5 Louisville, No. 6 Virginia, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 8 Pittsburgh, and No. 10 Florida State join the Blue Devils in the top ten. No. 11 North Carolina, No. 12 Boston College, No. 13 Clemson, No. 14 Georgia Tech, and No. 15 Miami round out the rankings.
Duke brings back all six of its runners from last year’s ACC Championships, including All-ACC selection Sophia Parvizi-Wayne, who returns for her sophomore year. Also returning are junior co-captains Liz Lansing and Olivia Gwynn. Lansing, as well as classmates Gabrielle Richichi and Sheridan Wilbur and sophomores Lindsay Billings and Sarah Armstrong all gained experience last year running in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships. The Blue Devils add a strong recruiting class with six newcomers joining this year’s team.
