DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s cross country team continues its fall slate this weekend as the team travels down the road to Cary, N.C., to take part in the Great American Cross Country Festival. The race is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start with the racers covering an eight-kilometer course.
Duke will field a 10-man lineup in its third race of the campaign, which will include four freshmen, five juniors and one senior.
The freshman foursome includes Joe Cullen, Carter Dillon, Will Dixon and Devin Connell—all of whom will be competing in their second race of the fall. Cullen (19:41), Dillon (19:44) and Dixon (20:06) each notched top-30 overall finishes in their collegiate debuts, placing 20th, 22nd and 25th, respectively, while Connell posted a 5K time of 20:40 to rank 39th in the Elon Opener as part of Duke’s second-place team finish.
Duke’s five juniors consist of Matt Wisner, Ethan Ready, Adamson Bryant, Zachary Alhamra and Dalton Randall. Wisner finished just outside of the top-20 in the season-opener, placing 21st with a time of 19:41. Ready (20:22) and Bryant (20:29) also saw action in the Blue Devils’ first meet of the season, finishing 32nd and 35th, respectively. The duo of Alhamra and Randall will make their fall debuts on Saturday. Alhamra, a former Colorado prep star, looks to return to action after a two-year hiatus from full-time training.
Stephen Garrett will be Duke’s lone senior competitor Saturday, looking to build upon a solid outing in the season-opening race where he finished 15th overall with a time of 19:14. Last season, Garrett posted top-five finishes for the Blue Devils in three of his five races.
Duke enters the weekend with a 19-1 overall record as the seventh-ranked team in the Southeast Region. The Great American Cross Country Festival features several other local teams and takes place at Wakemed Park in Cary, N.C.
