DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s cross country team returns to action this weekend, traveling down the road to Rock Hill, S.C., to take part in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Friday afternoon. The 10-kilometer race is set for a 12 p.m. start.
The Blue Devils will use their top eight finishers from the ACC Championships to comprise an eight-man squad in Friday’s race.
The Duke lineup is headlined by Nikhil Pulimood, who has led the way for the Blue Devils all season. The senior captain has been among Duke’s top two finishers in each of his four races this fall, most recently finishing second for the Blue Devils at the ACC Championships two weeks ago in Boston. Of his four races, Pulimood has notched top-10 finishes in two of those contests.
Joining Pulimood will be sophomore Alex Miley, who has been impressive of late, earning first-place finishes for Duke in his last two competitions. Miley posted a solid performance at the ACC Championships with a 23rd-place overall finish, finishing just two spots shy of earning all-conference honors with a season-best 8K time of 24:19.7.
The sophomore duo of CJ Ambrosio and Josh Romine look to continue their impressive seasons as both compete in the first 10K race of their collegiate career. Ambrosio has been among the Blue Devils’ top-five finishers in each of his four races this season, including a third-place finish at the ACC Championships. Romine has recorded top-five finishes in three of his four contests, recently earning a fourth-place finish at the conference championships as part of his personal-best time of 24:48.3.
Also competing in Rock Hill will be the trio of Matt Wisner, Tom Sullivan, and Charles Cooper. Wisner and Sullivan had their best performances of the season in the ECU Pirates Invite, with both guys eclipsing personal-best times on their way to earning top-10 overall finishes. Cooper has posted a pair of top-five finishes for the Blue Devils this season, most recently finishing fifth for Duke at the ACC Championships to close out the scoring.
Junior Cole Hoff will round out the Blue Devil lineup Friday, looking to improve upon his sixth-place finish for Duke at the conference championships. Hoff has notched a pair of top-five finishes for the Blue Devils this season, including a third-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational where Duke earned a first-place team victory.
Duke enters the weekend with a 65-30 overall record, including a 7-8 mark against ACC opponents as the eighth-ranked team in the Southeast Region. The NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will take place at the Winthrop Farm, including eight teams from the ACC in the field.
