DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Paul Dellinger earned his first accolade of the fall season, garnering Duke Student-Athlete of the Week recognition for his performance over the weekend which helped the Blue Devils men’s squad earn a first-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.

For the second consecutive meet of the season, Dellinger was the first Duke runner to cross the finish line, posting a time of 24:47.3 to place eighth overall in the 152-man field. His eighth-place overall finish led the way for the Blue Devils, helping them secure a first-place team win in a highly competitive 15-team field which included six teams ranked in the top 15 of their respective regions. The 13th-ranked Blue Devils took home a narrow three-point win ahead of the host, third-ranked Minnesota, to earn their first win of the season and first victory at the Roy Griak since 2010.

With his performance, Dellinger has now finished among Duke’s top-three in six of the eight races across his collegiate career. The second-year runner has also notched top-10 overall finishes in four of those eight races with of two of those coming in the 2018 fall campaign.

The Duke men’s cross country team returns to action this weekend, traveling down to Cary, N.C., to take part in the Great American Cross Country Festival on Oct. 6, which is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
