DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke University cross country and track & field team will hold its annual Running Camp from July 28 to August 1, 2010. Registration is now open and will continue through July 15, or until all spots are filled.
The Duke Running Camp provides campers with an inside look at how the Blue Devils have established themselves as one of the nation's premiere collegiate running programs. The camp focuses on providing instruction in the running events, primarily 800-meters through 5,000-meters and cross country, for boys and girls ages 12-18. Instruction includes running workouts, form drills, stretching, strength training, racing strategies, nutrition and sports psychology, with optional instruction in the steeplechase also available. The Duke Running Camp is sponsored by Nike, and all campers will receive a Nike Duke Running Camp t-shirt.
Duke head women's cross country coach Kevin Jermyn will once again serve as Camp Director in 2010, while Blue Devil head men's cross country coach Norm Ogilvie and assistant coach Liz Wort will also provide instruction. The remaining camp counselors will primarily consist of current Duke student-athletes.
All training activities will take place at Duke University's trails and facilities. The training facilities at Duke are among the best in the nation with over 30 miles of running trails in the Duke Forest and a great variety of running routes on soft surfaces available. Duke also features the 34,000-capacity Wallace Wade Stadium, one of the top track & field venues in the country and host to the 2000 NCAA Track & Field Championships.
In addition, campers will be able to stay in air-conditioned double dorm rooms on Duke's gothic-style West Campus, one of the most beautiful college campuses in the nation. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the main cafeteria (Great Hall) and dinners are catered at the track stadium each evening.
To reserve your spot, please submit a completed camp application and $100 non-refundable registration fee. The Duke Summer Health Questionnaire is also available through goduke.com and must be completed and presented at check-in.
