DURHAM, N.C. - The conference office announced the 2018 ACC preseason cross country coaches’ polls Thursday afternoon, with the Duke women coming in at No. 7. In addition to its ACC preseason ranking, the Blue Devils also claimed a top-five spot on this year’s United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason regional poll, coming in at No. 4 in the Southeast Region—their highest preseason ranking since 2013.
NC State, the two-time defending championship, took the top spot in the conference preseason poll, followed by Notre Dame. No. 3 Louisville, No. 4 Virginia Tech, No. 5 Syracuse, No.6 Wake Forest, No. 8 Florida State, No. 9 Virginia and No. 10 North Carolina all join the Blue Devils in the top ten. No. 11 Pittsburgh, No. 12 Georgia Tech, No. 13 Boston College, No. 14 Clemson and No. 15 Miami round out the preseason rankings.
After a seventh place finish a season ago, Duke brings back each of its top-five finishers from last year’s ACC Championships, including All-ACC selections Michaela Reinhart and Amanda Beach, who both return for their sophomore seasons. Also returning are senior co-captains Liz Lansing and Olivia Gwynn, along with senior Sheridan Wilbur and junior Lindsay Billings—who all scored for Duke in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships a season ago.
The Duke women are scheduled to open the 2018 season Friday evening at the Elon Classic with the start of the race scheduled for 6:45 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
