DURHAM, N.C. - Head Men’s Cross-Country Coach Norm Ogilvie announced the 2019 Duke men’s cross country schedule today. The Blue Devils open the season, Ogilvie’s 29th with Duke cross-country, on Friday night, August 30, with a special evening race under the lights at nearby Elon.
“We feel this schedule allows us every opportunity to compete against the nation’s best on some of the country’s top cross-country courses,” said Ogilvie. “We are also getting a chance to preview both the regional and NCAA courses before we race the season’s most important meets on those courses in November.”
Two weeks later the Duke men travel to Charlottesville Virginia to preview the NCAA Southeast region course at Panorama Farms on Saturday, September 14. The Blue Devils conclude their September slate by flying to Minneapolis to defend their team title at the nationally competitive Roy Griak Invitational on September 28, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
The following weekend, Duke will stay close to home to defend its team title at the college race of the Great American Cross-Country Festival held in Cary, N.C., at the Wake Med Soccer Park course. Duke will split its squad two weekends later, with the B team competing in Greeneville, N.C., on Friday, October 18 at Lake Kristi, while the top seven runners will tangle with the nation’s best at the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind., site of the NCAA championships on November 23. Duke will travel to Blacksburg, Va., twice in November, first for the ACC championships on Friday November 1 and then to the Hokie Open on Friday, November 8.
Friday, November 15, the Duke men will attempt to qualify for the NCAA finals with a return trip to Charlottesville’s Panorama Farms for the NCAA Southeast regional.
“We are also super excited to welcome a truly outstanding group of freshman to our returning veteran group, led by a special junior class for 2019,” stated Ogilvie. “We also expect good leadership from our seniors. Our goals for this season are high, and we have the talent and experience on board to make them happen.”
