DURHAM, N.C. – Former Blue Devil standout Sarah Bullard has been tabbed a captain of the 2017 U.S. Women's World Cup Team, as announced over the weekend by US Lacrosse.

Bullard will serve as a captain along with goalkeeper Devon Wills as the U.S. squad begins its quest for its eighth world championship at this summer's 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup July 12-22 in Guildford, England. Bullard and Wills will both be competing in their third World Cup after helping to guide the U.S. to world championship titles in 2009 and 2013.

A 20-7 exhibition victory over Canada last weekend marked the U.S. team's final game before embarking for the World Cup. The reigning world champion will compete in Pool A with Australia, Canada, England, Scotland and Wales and will open play against Scotland July 13. A veteran midfielder for the U.S. women's national team, Bullard is a 2011 graduate of Duke. During her collegiate career, she was a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America selection in the midfield and was twice tabbed a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award. Bullard also earned All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament recognition and continues to rank among the program's all-time leaders in career points, goals, draw controls, caused turnovers and assists.
