DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball junior trio of Griffin Conine, Jimmy Herron and Zack Kone was named to the 2017 Friendly’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game following a meeting of the league’s 10 coaches.
Herron, a centerfielder with the Orleans Firebirds, was tabbed to the East Division team while Cotuit Kettleers right fielder Conine and infielder Zack Kone both earned spots on the West Division squad.
The annual all-star matchup between the two division is slated for Saturday, July 22 at Clem Spillane Field in Wareham, Mass. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
In 27 games during the summer, Conine is hitting .324 for Cotuit with seven home runs, four doubles, a triple and 24 RBI. He leads the CCBL in home runs, ranks second in RBI and ranks 10th in batting average.
Herron has also enjoyed a standout summer, batting .365 with Orleans. A 31st round MLB draft pick of the New York Yankees, Herron has eight doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, nine stolen bases and 19 runs scored. He ranks third in the CCBL in batting average and fourth in runs scored.
The starting shortstop for Cotuit, Kone has turned in a .240 batting average with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBI. Kone is fielding .983, committing just one error in 27 games. He boasts the best fielding percentage among CCBl shortstops to play 20 or more games this summer.
