Mary Markwordt

Midfield/Attack l Marietta, Ga. l Blessed Trinity Catholic

Prior to Duke: A two-time state champion at Blessed Trinity Catholic, Markwordt garnered All-America recognition as a sophomore, junior and senior. She topped the 100-goal mark her final season, giving her 310 goals over her four years. The Marietta, Ga., native also totaled 557 draw controls during her prep career and was a four-time first team all-state selection.

What is your best lacrosse memory?

MM: Running to our goalie in the state championship after coming back from a seven-goal deficit to win the game.

When did you start playing lacrosse?

MM: I started playing lacrosse when I was seven years old. Lacrosse is not very popular in Georgia so my dad talked to the coaches and I played with the U15 age group. It’s safe to say I was the tiniest player on the field for about six years ...

Who has had the largest impact on your life?

MM: My dad for sure. He watches all of the college lacrosse games and sends me highlight reels to learn from. Every Saturday for all four years of high school, he would spend two hours in our backyard running drills and teaching me things that have made me the player I am. We make a good team.

Why did you choose Duke?

MM: I chose Duke because they have an incredible lacrosse program and challenging academics that will help me in my life outside of college.

What are your goals for your collegiate career?

MM: I hope to help our team in any way I can to win the NCAA championship!

Quick Hitters:

Favorite athlete: Pavel Datsyuk

Hobbies: I love to fish

Favorite musician: I really love Jason Aldean

If you were to play another sport, what would it be? I’ve always wanted to be a gymnast
Pregame ritual: I always tap my fingers over my heart to the beat of the National Anthem before the game

Interesting fact about yourself: I have a Cockapoo puppy named Schneebly

Best advice you’ve received: My PE teacher once told us that there are two types of people in the world: those who are humble and those who are about to be. He said people should always be humble.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully I have my dream job and am married with a few little laxers of my own

To be a part of the Duke women’s lacrosse program is … the best opportunity God has graced me with so far in my life.
