DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux and freshman attacker Charlotte North of the Duke women’s lacrosse team earned ACC weekly honors, as announced by the conference office Tuesday. Cadoux was named the Defensive Player of the Week and North was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week following a pair of weekend wins over Campbell and No. 11 Northwestern.
Cadoux came up big for the Blue Devils in the waning minutes of Sunday’s thrilling 9-8 victory over the Wildcats at Koskinen Stadium. She made three consecutive stops on Northwestern’s final offensive possession to seal the one-goal win for Duke. The Annapolis, Md., native anchored an outstanding performance by the defensive unit, as the group held a team averaging 18.0 goals per game to just the eight tallies on 26 shots.
On the weekend, Cadoux totaled 13 saves as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 on the spring.
The ACC Defensive Player of the Week nod was the second of Cadoux’s career.
North paced the Duke attack in both victories, racking up nine goals and one assist. Her six-goal showing Friday in an 18-8 defeat of Campbell marked the highest single game output by a Blue Devil since Maddy Acton had six tallies against Syracuse April 3, 2016. North notched her third straight hat trick Sunday against the Wildcats, delivering what would prove to be the game winner on an assist from fellow freshman Mary Markwordt inside the final five minutes. That tally helped propel Duke to its second win of the season over a ranked opponent.
North’s 12 goals and 13 points this season lead all Blue Devils heading into Saturday’s ACC opener at Virginia Tech.
