This is Dear Duke, a summer series where our Class of 2018 seniors reflect on their time spent as student-athletes at Duke University.

Dear Duke,

Thank you for four formative, challenging, and unforgettable years, during which I learned from incredible role models and forged lifelong friendships, all while getting to play the sport that I love. To KMK, thank you for giving me the privilege of playing lacrosse here. This sport has taken me many places and offered me many opportunities, the greatest of which was Duke.

There is sincere pride in those words. Being a Duke student-athlete involves a deep commitment to the process, an appreciation for tradition, a love for competition, and a resilience to be pushed and to push others toward a common goal, both on and off the field. Duke is not a place, but rather an experience. The people here are well rounded and ambitious, they are relentless and daring, and it creates an inspired atmosphere. And although four years seems all but too short, the diploma I earned holds more than a degree; with it come the invaluable lessons learned - to maintain a growth mindset, to be certain of the uncertainty, to never view things as “you have to” but always “you get to”; and to invest wholeheartedly in everything you do.

I am grateful to have grown beside such extraordinary peers and teammates, and to have been a part of a chapter in the storied legacy that is Duke Women’s Lacrosse. “Play for all those who came before you, and the many who will follow.” To my Blue Devil home and family, keep on keeping on.
