DURHAM, N.C. – With fall ball competition wrapped up, head coach Kerstin Kimel and the Duke women’s lacrosse program turn their attention to the spring and the Blue Devils’ 2019 schedule.
The 17-game regular season begins in February and continues through May, and will feature seven contests against opponents who were selected to the 2018 NCAA Championship field. In addition, half of Duke’s 2019 opposition finished this past season with 10 or more wins.
The program’s nine regular season home contests feature ACC tilts against North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia Tech, as well as an inaugural meeting with VCU May 5 at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils’ eight road games include trips to three ACC opponents and early season matchups at Northwestern and Penn.
Beginning with Villanova, Duke’s non-conference slate pits the squad against 10 teams from eight different conferences. The Blue Devils welcome the Wildcats and in-state opponent Presbyterian for opening weekend in Durham. Following a trip to Evanston, Ill., to take on 2018 NCAA quarterfinalist Northwestern, Duke kicks off ACC play at home against Virginia Tech.
A busy second month of the season will see the Blue Devils host William & Mary, Davidson and Syracuse and visit Louisville and Virginia in conference action. Duke will also make trips to nearby opponents Elon and Campbell and head north to play at Penn.
April will send the Blue Devils to 2018 NCAA runner-up Boston College and to East Carolina, a program in its second season that is led by former Duke assistant coach Amanda Barnes. Duke then closes the regular season portion of its slate with a three-game home stand, hosting Notre Dame, North Carolina and VCU.
The Eagles will play host to the 2019 ACC Championship April 24, 26 and 28 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Kimel’s squad returns 23 letterwinners from a season ago, including 2018 All-ACC selections Callie Humphrey, Olivia Jenner and Charlotte North. This fall, the Blue Devils also welcomed the No. 4 freshman class in the nation according to Inside Lacrosse.
