SPARKS, Md. – Blue Devil freshman Maddie Jenner has earned a spot on the 2019 U.S. U19 women’s national team training roster following last weekend’s Spring Premiere in Stanford, Calif.
From an initial pool of 110 players that participated in tryouts last summer, US Lacrosse took 34 players to Stanford University for a training weekend at Spring Premiere, a six-team women’s event featuring the U.S. senior and U19 teams, national teams from Japan and England, and college teams from Fresno State and Stanford. Jenner, who had a game-high nine draw controls in an 18-8 victory over England last weekend, was one of 23 players to make the latest U19 roster, released Thursday.
Before coming to Durham to join older sister Olivia Jenner at Duke, Maddie wrapped up her high school career at McDonogh by earning a spot in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game. She helped lead McDonogh to three IAAM Conference titles and was a three-time all-conference selection. Jenner was also a first team all-metro pick in addition to being named the All-USA Today and Baltimore Sun All-Metro Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year as a junior. An attacker and draw control specialist, she totaled 137 goals and 59 assists over her four seasons.
During the fall, Jenner was tabbed No. 4 on IL Women’s Class of 2018 Power 100 list.
The U.S. has two more training camps scheduled before departing for the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s U19 World Championship, which will be held Aug. 1-10 in Peterborough, Canada. Prior to the world championship, head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller will narrow the final roster to the FIL-mandated limit of 18 players.
Jenner and the 24th-ranked Blue Devils open the 2019 campaign Saturday, Feb. 9 against Villanova at Koskinen Stadium. The 1 p.m. tilt will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Tickets are available at goduke.com/tickets.
