DURHAM, N.C. – In what has been a banner week for Blue Devil senior Olivia Jenner, the co-captain from Annapolis, Md., added another honor Thursday evening, as she was selected in the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL)’s Spring Draft.
One of 25 current college seniors invited to join the WPLL for its second season, Jenner was drafted eighth overall by the New England Command. She became the fourth player in Duke history to be drafted into the league, and joins 2018 graduate Maddie Crutchfield (Philadelphia Fire) and current Blue Devil assistant coach Brooke Griffin (Baltimore Brave) on WPLL rosters.
Jenner began the week by garnering first team All-ACC accolades Tuesday and Wednesday evening led Duke to a 14-13 upset of third-seeded and sixth-ranked Notre Dame in the ACC Championship quarterfinals. The Blue Devils’ all-time career draw controls leader turned in six goals, including the game winner inside the contest’s final five minutes, and added four draw controls to help the squad advance to Friday’s semifinals. Thursday saw Jenner earn recognition from the Tewaaraton Foundation as one of 25 women’s nominees for the annual award. She then capped Thursday evening with the WPLL selection.
Through 17 contests this spring, Jenner owns a team-high 118 draw controls. She is tied for the team lead in assists (21) and ranks second on the squad in goals (53) and points (74).
“Very proud of her – not surprised,” said Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel. “Liv, from a professional standpoint, can do a lot for a team, from scoring to winning the draw. We definitely had coaches inquiring about her and her interest in continuing to play beyond college. I’m really happy for her.”
