OTTAWA – Following a one goal, one assist performance in last weekend’s 2019 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Game, incoming freshman Blue Devil Ainsley Thurston was named Tuesday to the final roster for the Canadian Women’s U19 Field Lacrosse Team. The squad will represent Canada at the 2019 Women’s Lacrosse U19 World Championship in Peterborough, Ontario Aug. 1-10.
Thurston was among 18 athletes and two alternates named to the final roster following a series of evaluation camps dating back to last November.
A native of Belle Isle, Fla., Thurston will join the Blue Devils in the fall out of Lake Highland Preparatory. She was tabbed an All-American by US Lacrosse as a senior after notching 70 goals and 30 assists. Thurston was one of three incoming Duke freshmen to be selected to last weekend’s Under Armour All-America Game, joining future teammates Olivia Carner and Lexi Schmalz.
Canada makes its tournament debut at the World Lacrosse Women’s U19 Championship Aug. 2 against England. The Canadian squad will look to add another medal after taking gold at the championship in 2015.
