DURHAM, N.C.—Duke graduate student goalkeeper Robert Moewes is among the initial list of 53 NCAA Division I players who have been to the 2017 adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine in Los Angeles next month. Moewes is one of five goalkeepers among the 53 players selected.

The 2017 adidas MLS Player Combine will be held in Los Angeles from Jan. 8-12. All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2017 SuperDraft presented by adidas, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 13 at the LA Convention Center.

Moewes, voted as the team’s Most Valuable Player, anchored Duke’s defense in 2016. He played all but 28 minutes in goal and posted a 1.36 goals against average and a .736 save percentage. The Germany native ranked third in the ACC in saves with 3.94 and 67 overall.

In Duke’s upset win over No. 9 UCLA Moewes made a season-high eight saves, including five in the second half, to earn ACC Defensive Player of the Week as well as College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week honors. He was equally as outstanding in Duke’s upset victory over No. 4 Notre Dame with seven saves, three of which came in the second overtime.

Moewes came to Durham after two seasons as the starting goalkeeper at Binghamton University. He was a two-time America East Goalkeeper of the Year and garnered NSCAA All-Region first team honors in 2014. For his career, Moewes started 53 games and sported a 1.21 goals against average and a .775 save percentage.

A committee of MLS and NCAA Division I coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Further invitees, including Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players and additional college seniors, will be announced in the coming weeks.

A mix of MLS academy personnel and college head coaches will make up the Combine coaching staff.

The Blue Devils finished the season with a 7-8-2 record.
