DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men’s soccer senior Brian White concluded a successful summer campaign with the New York Red Bulls U23 squad and recently claimed the top spot on the fifth edition of the 2017 Premier Development League Top Prospects list.
White recorded a league-best 17 goals and three assists for 37 points in 14 regular-season games for the New York Red Bulls. Previously, White debuted at No. 5 on the list that consists of 24 scouts, including head coaches, technical directors and coaching directors, across North America.
The New York Red Bulls, with White leading the charge, finished the year with a 12-1-1 regular season record. They led the league with 51 goals scored before falling to the Long Island Rough Riders in the play-in match for the Eastern Conference Championship.
Wake Forest’s Jon Bakero and Brad Dunwell came in at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, while Francis Atuahene of Michigan was fourth. Diego Campos from Clemson rounded out the top five. Overall, seven of the top 10 players on the list hail from ACC squads.
White returns to Duke for his senior season after leading the Blue Devils last year with 14 points from five goals and four assists. He earned All-ACC second team honors in 2016 and was voted the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player. For his career, White has 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points. He has started 43 of the 53 games he has played at Duke.
The Blue Devils kick off the 2017 season Aug. 25 and 27 with the John Rennie Nike Invitational. Duke welcomes Central Florida and Fordham to the tournament along with Elon.
