DURHAM, N.C.—With College Soccer News Team of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors already in his possession, rookie Daniel Wright picked up another one Tuesday morning as Top Drawer Soccer named him to its Team of the Week. He's the first Blue Devil this season to garner all three awards and joins classmate Will Pulisic as the lone Duke players to win conference recognition.
In a crucial week for the Blue Devils, Wright stepped up and notched goals in a pair of victories for the Blue Devils. He tallied an unassisted goal just 1:51 into the game to help Duke to a 2-1 triumph over Delaware Tuesday night.
Three days later, the Wixom, Mich., native scored one of his most memorable goals as a player, one-timing a cross from Max Moser into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead on Virginia in the 77th minute. That was enough for the Blue Devils as they picked up their 12th win of the year and clinched a first-round bye in the ACC Championship with a No. 4 seed.
Wright owns three goals overall on the year and ranks third on the team in points with eight. All three of his tallies have come in the past five games, a 3-1-1 stretch for Duke.
Duke, ranked third in the latest RPI and sixth in the NCAA Soccer Committee Rankings, begins ACC Championship play Sunday, Nov. 5 against the winner between Clemson and Syracuse. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., on ACC Network Extra. The winner advances to the semifinal round Nov. 8.
