DURHAM, N.C.—For the second time this season a Blue Devil has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week as senior striker Brian White garners the honor for his performances this past week. Will Pulisic picked up the first honor after a pair of shutouts on the opening weekend.
White posted two goals and an assist for five points in a 1-0-1 week to help keep the Blue Devils unbeaten on the season. He opened the scoring Tuesday night against Presbyterian, putting Duke ahead 1-0 before it finished in a 1-1 draw with the Blue Hose.
The Flemington, N.J., native put forth a spectacular effort three days later in the team’s ACC opener against Virginia Tech, netting the game-winning goal and assisting on the third goal in a 3-1 victory. His tally was a stellar individual effort from outside the penalty box.
White’s four goals on the year are one fewer than he had all of last season, while his nine points are five shy of his 14 from 2016. He currently ranks second in the conference in total goals and fifth in overall points.
The Blue Devils are 4-0-1 overall on the year and 1-0-0 in league play. Duke looks to remain unbeaten this weekend when it takes on rival North Carolina Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
