DURHAM, N.C.—Redshirt senior Mitch Finesilver has been named the ACC Wrestler of the Week following his thrilling winning performance against rival North Carolina Friday night. The honor is the first of the year for the veteran 149-pounder.
Ranked seventh and sporting an unbeaten dual record, Finesilver used a strong third period to upset fourth-ranked Austin O’Connor by a 6-4 decision. Trailing 4-3 in the third period, Finesilver scored an escape to tie the match and tacked on the winning takedown to earn the top-five victory and secure the top seed in the ACC Championship.
Finesilver is 26-3 overall on the year and finished the dual season with a perfect 10-0 mark. Sporting a 10-3 mark against top 20 foes, the Colorado native owns 88 career victories heading into postseason action.
