Clar Anderson enters his 14th year as the head coach of the Duke wrestling program.  Anderson took over head coaching duties in 1997-98 after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons under former Blue Devil mentor and Duke Hall of Famer Bill Harvey.

Through his first 13 seasons in charge, Duke has compiled a 96-109-1 record, including a 13-13 record over the past two seasons.

The 2009-10 season was a challenging one for Anderson and the Blue Devil squad as injuries hit the squad hard in the middle of the year. Duke opened the season with five tournaments, earning 13 top-four finishes with freshman Brent Jorge winning his first 14 matches.

The Blue Devils earned dual match victories over Davidson, Campbell and Gardner Webb to finish the year with a 3-8 overall record. In the ACC Tournament, Duke took fifth overall beating out NC State. Four   

For the second straight year, heavyweight Konrad Dudziak captured the ACC title to headline Duke's four wrestlers who finished among the top four. The native of Bayonne, N.J., advanced to the NCAA semifinal round and finished fourth overall at the NCAA Championships to become Duke's first two-time All-America honoree.

Senior Voris Tejada also left his mark on the Duke program under Anderson's tutelage as he finished his career ranked fourth in career victories at 97-49. John Barone extended his career record for wins, posting a 17-9 overall mark to close out his four years with a school-best 123-41 mark.

Duke was equally successful in the classroom as Barone and Peter Terrezza earned NWCA All-Academic recognition and the team finished with the fourth highest grade point average among Division I wrestling programs. The Blue Devils placed five athletes on the All-ACC Academic squad.

Anderson helped guide the Blue Devil wrestling team to new heights in 2008-09. Under his guidance, Dudziak became Duke's first All-America wrestler as he battled his way to earning NCAA Runner-Up honors. Dudziak also captured the ACC heavyweight title as Duke placed five wrestlers among the top four at the ACC Championship.

Barone surpassed the single season wins mark for the second straight year and broke the career wins record with 106. Anderson is an equally strong mentor outside of the wrestling arena as Barone captured ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year recognition and Duke placed a league-best eight student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Team. Nationally, Duke finished with the fourth highest GPA among all Division I wrestling programs, marking the third straight year the Blue Devils have been among the top five.

In 2007-08, the Blue Devils posted the highest GPA of all wrestling teams in the nation for the second consecutive season and earned 10 spots on the All-ACC Academic Team. Barone broke the Duke single season wins mark with 35 victories under Anderson's tutelage.

In March of 2007, Anderson was bestowed the Bob Bubb Coaching Excellence Award for Division I wrestling. The award recognizes a coach who successfully mentors student-athletes on the mat as well as outside the gym.

The 2003-04 campaign was Anderson's most successful as a head coach as four wrestlers, Adam Benitez, Frank Cornely, Levi Craig and Christian Smith, brought home ACC titles. In recognition of the team's success, Anderson earned ACC Coach of the Year honors.

In 2000-01, Anderson led Duke to 12 victories, setting a new school record, and marking the first winning season since the 1996-97 campaign. 

In his first year as the head coach during the 1997-98 campaign, Anderson collected a 5-7 record.

Anderson has twice led Duke teams to Eastern Europe to compete and train in the summer. During the summer of 2005, Anderson led Duke wrestlers on an 18-day, five-country tour that included stops in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Coach Anderson was also selected to lead the National Wrestling Coaches Association's All-Star Tour through Beijing in the summer of 2005.

Anderson possesses a wealth of wrestling experience. He served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State during the 1985-86 campaign and at N.C. State from 1991-94.

A 1985 graduate of Oklahoma State, Anderson was a standout 134-pound wrestler for the Cowboys. He captured the NCAA title at 134 pounds in 1983 and was a two-time All-America after earning fifth place honors in 1984. Anderson posted a 73-17-4 record during his career at Oklahoma State and won a conference title in 1984. He was a part of the Cowboy squad that took home conference championships in 1983 and 1984 and posted 44 straight victories and 22 consecutive home wins over nearly a three-year span. Those streaks still stand as some of the best in Cowboy wrestling history.

Prior to his career at OSU, Anderson garnered All-America honors at Auburn in 1981.

Anderson spent one year, from 1987-88, living in Eastern Europe and competing internationally. A native of Olean, N.Y., Anderson and his wife, Teresa, have four children, Jesse, Silas, Caleb and Levi.
