PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  The Duke track & field program split time between two meets Friday at the 125th Penn Relays and the Virginia Grand Prix.

PENN RELAYS

The Blue Devils battled through several rain delays and the women opened the second day in Philadelphia with a second-place finish in the Championship of America Shuttle Hurdle Relay. Erin Marsh, Isabel Wakefield, Nikki Merritt and Lauren Hoffman combined for a school-record time of 56.66.

Marsh not only saw success as a leg of the shuttle hurdle relay but she also qualified for the finals of the women’s 100m hurdles with her third-place finish. The Buford, Ga., native clocked in at 13.61 and will race in the finals Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

Charles Cooper, Miles Mingo, Carter Dillon and Matt Wisner represented Duke in the College Men’s Distance Medley Relay Championship of America Invitational and finished in a time of 9:56.16. All 12 schools were tightly bunched with one lap to go. The best leg for Duke was the second leg in which Mingo covered 400m in 47.20.

Dillon, Cooper, Wisner and Nick Cox will return to the track Saturday at 1 p.m., for the 4x800m relay before the women’s 4x400m relay will compete in the finals at 2:19 p.m. Both races will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network.

VIRGINIA GRAND PRIX

In Charlottesville, Va., field-event specialists opened the first day of the Virginia Grand Prix at Lannigan Field.

In women’s javelin, Ashleigh Rodriguez earned fifth with a mark of 41.90m on her first toss before Kiegan Lenihan notched a mark of 59.39m on his fifth attempt to take fourth.

The Blue Devils will close out the final day at the Virginia Grand Prix Saturday.
