DURHAM, N.C. – Three men on the Duke track & field team were named to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Indoor Track & Field Team, as announced Thursday by the conference office.

The Blue Devils that received the honor were graduate student Charles Cooper, senior Rivers Ridout and junior Matt Wisner.

In his first season with the squad, Cooper, a grad student at Fuqua, made an immediate impact on the track. Cooper notched the second-fastest time in Duke indoor history in the 800m at the ACC Championships with a time of 1:49.39 and was a leg of the second-place finishing distance medley relay team at the Armory Collegiate. With his 800m performance, Cooper ranked fifth in the conference and tied for 39th nationally.

As a high jumper, Ridout has had a standout career as a Blue Devil. During the 2019 indoor campaign, the Searcy, Ark., native captured a bronze medal at the ACC Championships with the second-best clearance in Duke history, 2.16m (7-1.00). At the conclusion of the indoor season, Ridout was ranked third in the conference and tied for 33rd in the nation.

As Duke’s lone male representative at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Wisner’s indoor junior campaign concluded with second team All-America honors in the 800m. Wisner rewrote his own school-record time in the 800m twice where he captured bronze at the conference championships with a program record of 1:48.57. That time put him second in the ACC and 13th in the country with the conclusion of the indoor season.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.

Every member of the 2019 All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Teams also earned All-America and/or All-ACC honors during the most recent season, and/or was named an ACC Performer of the Week.
