LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Duke track & field program kicked off the first of two days at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., today with men’s and women’s javelin and women’s hammer throw.
Freshman Katelyn Gochenour has been outstanding in her rookie campaign as a Blue Devil and once again rewrote the record books today in women’s javelin. Gochenour extended her previous school record to 170-2 (51.86) this afternoon in California and leads the ACC and is ranked 13th nationally. Gochenour notched fourth place, followed by senior Christine Streisel in seventh with a mark of 153-8 (46.84).
Kiegan Lenihan and Nicholas Solfanelli represented the Blue Devil men in the javelin competition and each posted top-20 performances this evening. Lenihan took 16th with a 189-0 (57.62), followed by Solfanelli with a toss of 188-5 (57.42) to take 17th.
Sophomore Stefani Vukajlovic competed as the lone Blue Devil in the women’s hammer throw competition and launched the implement 186-9 (56.92) to finish 23rd.
The Blue Devils will round out their time in California tomorrow with the final day of the Beach Invitational.
