Five Blue Devils Place & Two Qualify For Finals At IC4A’s & ECAC’s

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Duke Track and Field team competed in the first two days of the ECAC and IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., on Friday and Saturday. The women are currently in seventh place with 16.5 points and the men rank 19th with six team points.

Women’s: The 3,000m steeplechase on Friday night saw junior Patricia Loughlin take second place in a time of 10:31.54. Not only was that a personal best, but it moved Loughlin up to second place on the Duke records list and earned the team eight points. Loughlin qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the second time this season and earned All-East honors.

Sophomore Karolina Haraldsdottir competed in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday at the ECAC’s and earned a personal-best score of 4,633. That placed her seventh, earned the Blue Devils two team points and moved Haraldsdottir up to second place on the Duke records list. She qualified for All-East accolades with her top-eight performance. The heptathlon consists of the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin throw and 800m.

Junior Molly Lehman qualified for the finals on Sunday in the 1,500m with a 4:24.41 clocking. That time was the second-fastest of the day and earned Lehman a personal best and her third NCAA Regional bid this year in the event.

In the pole vault on Saturday, freshmen Amy Fryt and Anne Marie Gordon turned in solid performances with equal heights of 12’-3.5.” That placed Fryt fourth and Gordon seventh, combining for 6.5 points. It equaled Fryt’s personal best and was a new best for Gordon, tying her for fourth-place in the Duke pole vault records. Both women garnered All-East honors with their showings.

Men’s: Junior Tyler Clarke completed the decathlon on Friday and Saturday in Princeton. Clarke placed third with a score of 6,642. That picked up six points for Duke and won him All-East accolades. The decathlon consists of the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110m high hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500m.

The 1,500m run saw freshman Cory Nanni qualify for the finals on Sunday with a personal-best 3:47.90 clocking. His time tied for the fourth-fastest in preliminaries and just missed the NCAA Regional standard of 3:47.80, which Nanni will shoot for on Sunday.

A Look Ahead: The IC4A’s and ECAC’s will wrap up on Sunday with events from 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Currently three Duke women and five Duke men have qualified for the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., which will be held on May 30 and 31.
