SOUTH WALES – In dominating fashion, Duke University rising senior Leona Maguire advanced to the round of 16 at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship Thursday as she downed two Spanish golfers in match play action at the at the Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club in South Wales.  

In her first match of the day against Elena Hualde Zuniga, Maguire cruised to a 5&4 win.  She would next face Paula Neira Garcia of Spain in the round of 32, after Garcia took down Alessia Nobilio, 3&2.  Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, went 2up early and then went on to post a 7&6 victory over Garcia.  

Rising sophomore Ana Belac dropped her first round match, 4&3, to Leonie Harm of Germany.

Maguire will go up against Beatrice Wallin of Sweden in the round of 16, after Wallin downed Elena Moosman of Switzerland, 3&2.
