DURHAM, N.C. – Following their first spring tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico, the Duke men’s golf team will head west to Chula Vista, Calif. to partake in the 2017 Lamkin San Diego Classic.
The tournament, held at the San Diego Country Club (par 72, 7,033 yards), will feature 54 holes of stroke play with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Shotgun rounds will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET on Monday and 11:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
Duke will look to be the first east coast team to win the event, as no university east of Texas has been crowned in the tournament’s nine-year history.
Freshman Chandler Eaton will take the No. 1 spot in Duke’s lineup, following an impressive T-7 finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate late last month. The Alpharetta, Ga. native enters the tournament with a team-best 71.33 stroke average and 207 Low 54.
Senior Alexander Matlari comes in at No. 2, boasting a 72.13 stroke average with hopes of finishing first for the third time this season. Teammates Jake Shuman and Adam Wood come in at No. 3 and 4 with 72 and 72.79 averages, respectively.
Rounding out the lineup at No. 5 will be junior Ben Silverman, who is making his spring season debut. He will bring with him a 74.18 stroke average, and a 73 percent of rounds played at 75 or under.
