DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Alex Smalley of the Duke men's golf team was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after he helped lead his squad to Duke's eighth ACC Championship over the weekend at the Musgrove Mill Golf Course in Clinton, S.C.
Smalley, who hails from Wake Forest, N.C., carded a 54-hole ledger of four-under-par, 212, to finish tied for fifth and one shot behind the individual winner.
After a one-over-par, 73, in Friday's opening round, Smalley fired back-to-back under-par scores with a 69 in round two and a 70 in round three. As a team, the Blue Devil dominated the field with a 14-under-par, 850, on their way to winning by a very impressive 12 strokes.
It was the first ACC Championship for Duke since 2013. Duke placed all five golfers in the top 14 of the individual leaderboard.
