ALPHARETTA, GA – The Duke men’s golf team ebbed and flowed in the first round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Friday, but managed to put together a six-under 282 to finish the day in the top third of the pack.

In a stacked field that featured five of the current top-10, eight of the top-25, and 13 of the top-50 teams as of October 15, Duke finished tied for third, just five strokes behind current leader Oklahoma State.

Alex Smalley ended the afternoon as the No. 1 Blue Devil, boasting a 67 (-5). His first nine holes of the morning set the tone for the day, as the junior snared four birdies with zero bogeys before making the turn.

Playing on his home course, sophomore Chandler Eaton shot a solid three-under 69 that was punctuated with an eagle on No. 9. Eaton tallied four birdies and three bogeys in addition.

Senior Adam Wood finished with a 71 (-1) that was highlighted by a bogeyless, two-birdie front nine. Outside of a couple bogeys on the back, the Zionsville, Ind. native’s scorecard remained relatively neat throughout the day.

Finishing his opening round at three-over, Jake Shuman managed to make the turn having secured a pair of birdies with no bogeys on the front nine. The back nine, however, was not as clean, as the Needham, Mass. local was hit with a bogey, a double and triple before capping the day with a birdie on the final hole.

Steven DiLisio capped the Duke lineup in the first round, tallying a four-over-par 76 that was marred by three bogeys and a pair of doubles. The sophomore carded three birdies on the day, with two coming back-to-back on No. 14 and 15.

Alex Smalley: T-4
Chandler Eaton: T-12
Adam Wood: T-25
Jake Shuman: T-61
Steven DiLisio: T-67
