GREENSBORO, N.C. – On a rather high-scoring day for the entire field, the No. 23 Duke men’s golf team managed to finish it near the top, compiling a score of 586 (+10) through Saturday’s first and second rounds.

Duke posted an even 288 in the first round and a 298 (+10) in the second, landing itself in second on the leaderboard. Entering Sunday’s final round, the team trails ACC rival North Carolina by four strokes.

As the 8:30 a.m. shotgun start unfolded, an uphill battle would follow, as only two of the eleven participating Blue Devils—both of whom were on the five-man lineup—finished the first round under par.

The second round held more of the same, as just one Blue Devil would have an under-par round.

Alex Smalley’s opening effort of 71 (-1) featured three consecutive birdies on holes 11, 12 and 13. The Wake Forest, N.C. native ended his day with a second-round score of 70 (-2), pushing his overall score to three under.

Evan Katz finished his first round with a one-under 71 before shooting a five-over 77 to conclude his day at four over par. The freshman, who entered as No. 1 for Duke, was one of two Blue Devils (Smalley) to conclude his first round under par.

Jake Shuman (E) performed well out of the gates, firing an even 72 to get his tournament started. His four bogeys would be matched by four birdies, making way for a 78 (+6) second round.

Sophomore Chandler Eaton struggled early Saturday, carding a 78 (+6) in his first round that saw just one birdie. Eaton’s second round was a great improvement, however, as the Alpharetta, Ga. native secured a one-over 73 that included a trio of birdies.

Senior Adam Wood persevered in his first round, seeing a stretch of three consecutive bogeys. He would ultimately finish the round at two over before shooting a 81 (+9) in his follow up effort to push his score to eleven over.

Individuals
Senior Ben Silverman led the way for the Blue Devil individuals, posting back-to-back rounds of 73 (+1) to finish the day at two over.

Sophomore Harrison Taee carded rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1), respectively, to finish Saturday at three over.

Adrien Pendaries rounded out his effort at five over, garnering six birdies through 36 holes.

Sophomore Steven DiLisio shot seven-over for the day, while freshman Qi wen Wong—who made his Duke golf debut—put up a score of eight-over par which was highlighted by a second round of 73 (+1).

Shrish Dwivedi posted a 20-over par performance on Saturday, snaring four birdies in the process.
