DURHAM, N.C. – After a month being away from official team competition, Duke men’s golf returns to action this weekend with the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Held at the Querencia Golf Club (par 71, 6,898 yards), the tournament will take place over the course of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Continuing the trend of participation in high-caliber events, head coach Jamie Green has, with the acceptance of the invite-only bid, placed his program in yet another talent-packed tournament.
Featured in the Querencia Cabo field are 10 of Golfstat.com’s Top 25 teams in the nation, including No. 1 and last year’s tournament champion Oklahoma State, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Baylor, No. 12 California, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 15 Texas, No. 17 Stanford, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 20 Florida State and No. 24 South Florida.
Arizona State, Ole Miss, Duke, Houston and Rice will round out the 15-team field.
In the 2017 edition of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, the Blue Devils finished 8th of 15, shooting a seven-over 859 through three days, capping their effort with a final round of 284 (E).
Sunday and Monday's rounds will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST, and Tuesday's round will start at 10:00 a.m EST, all of which will open with shotgun starts.
Heading the Duke lineup this weekend will be Alex Smalley, who holds the team lead in scoring average at 71.13. The junior also owns the most top-5 finishes on the team with three.
Sophomore Chandler Eaton comes in at No. 2 for the Blue Devils, possessing a 71.33 stroke average through 15 rounds of play. Eaton notched the team’s best finish in its most recent event, the Sea Best Invitational. The Alpharetta, Ga. native shot a four-over 214 en route to finishing with a share of 27th.
Adrien Pendaries will serve as the lone freshman in the lineup, bringing with him a 72.67 average. This will be Pendaries third tournament playing as a member of the five-man unit.
Senior Jake Shuman will hold down the No. 4 spot, shooting a 72.92 thus far in his final campaign.
Rounding out the squad will be Shrish Dwivedi, who will be appearing in his fourth event this year. Additionally, the junior will be making his team-lineup debut for 2017-18.
